Luxury Catana Brings French Flair To Sanctuary Cove
Luxury blue water cruising catamaran, the Catana 47 Ocean Class is exhibited at 2007 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Renowned around the world for superior sailing performance, safety and comfort, the Catana Ocean Class range features carbon fibre masts, Kevlar reinforced canting hulls and retractable daggerboards.

And the best news is that Australia’s exchange rate now brings cost benefits to sailing buyers.

“A combination of the strong Australian dollar, financial assistance from the manufacturer plus cost savings in freight mean there is a substantial price reduction over the entire Catana range in Australia and New Zealand,” said Blue Yachting Australia director Luc Palisse, the distributor for this region.

Savings in excess of 10% have been achieved across the range and the basic Catana 43 (aluminium mast) is now priced at $A1 million plus GST.

The French-designed and manufactured Catana has maintained its strong reputation in recent years. The Catana 50 was successfully launched at the Paris Boat Show last December. It has since generated a strong interest with close to 20 boats being now on order worldwide.

“Catana catamarans are recognised as offering a real reference for ocean sailors. These catamarans, built in Canet-en-Rousillon in France, are designed with genuine ocean capability,” said Mr Palisse.

“The particular shape of the Kevlar reinforced hulls, the exceptional stiffness of the boat and its perfect balance, the safety of the centralized reefing system in the cockpit combined with the presence of electric winch and a self-tacking jib make you feel privileged to sail one of the most pleasurable, comfortable and safe production catamarans designed for single or short-handed sailing,” he said.

At Sanctuary Cove, visitors can meet Philippe Péché, the holder of several prestigious sailing world titles including the 2005 Jules Verne Trophy. He sailed around the world in a record 50 days, 16 hours and 20 minutes and will be on the Catana stand at Sanctuary Cove to discuss multihulls and the merits of Catana.

“We believe Philippe’s association with Catana offers the best testament to the brand’s genuine sailing ability,” said Mr Palisse.

France has a history of success within the production of sailing vessels. Between 1997 and 2004, the French production of yachts increased by 16% per year on average. Nearly 35% of the world production of sailing yachts is based in France.

The Ocean Class model at Sanctuary Cove offers luxurious living with one hull dedicated to the owners’ accommodation and a saloon and galley open to the cockpit. The Catana 47 has Category A ocean safety equipment and a full instrumentation package. With a LOA of 15.7m, the vessel has a fuel capacity of 800L, a fresh water capacity of 800L and has a draft (daggerboards up) of 1.25m.

In 2007, Blue Yachting Australia, the exclusive distributor in Australia and New Zealand for Catana, opened a head office in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

The Catana 47 is part of the sail range which includes the Catana 43, 50, 52, 58, 65 and 89.

At 2007 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show the Catana 47 Ocean Class is located at Blue Yachting Australia’s display on E marina.
